Setting: The Lost is an anthology about the forgotten people of the world. Based on the setting of Kingdom of Nothing, these stories are about people who have lost everything and their struggle to crawl back out of the cracks through which they’ve slipped. Something happened to them that was so horribly traumatic it brought their lives crashing down and forced them onto the street and into homelessness. A mysterious force called the Nothing has eaten their memories and manifested their fears as twisted monsters that threaten to destroy them.

As a result of the world collective ignoring those who are truly desperate, a force called the Nothing came into being.  The Nothing seeks out those who have lost everything they loved and drags them deeper into obscurity. Victims of the Nothing are known as the Lost. The Nothing manifests the fears and hopes of The Lost into creatures only they can see. The fears are called Cobwebs and the hopes are called Echos. The ever-lingering question of whether or not this is a delusion is always present for the Lost. Some embrace the fantasy while others choose to fight their way out into the real world.

Payment: Payment will be made to authors whose stories are accepted for publication. Payment will be $100 to be paid on acceptance of final draft.

Style Guide: Please refer to the Chicago Manual of Style for editorial guidelines. Only use one space after every period. Please include the title of your story, and your full name as how you would like it to appear in the book at the top of the page.

Gender guidelines: Galileo believes in gender equality, and stories should avoid sexist tropes. Women should not always be placed in reactive or passive roles, and female characters should be treated with the same interest and respect given male characters.

What do you do when there are more conventions than you can possibly attend, more games than you could run by yourself in one convention, and you happen to have lots of cool swag?  That’s when it’s time to recruit a few good Game Masters.

We are looking for a few good players to join the Galileo Games Demo team as official Galileo Gamers.  We need people who can demo our games at conventions. If you’ve run a Galileo game, own a game, or have enjoyed a game before, then become an official Galileo Gamer, and help us spread the word about the games you love.

How can I join the Galileo Gamers?

All you have to do is run one of our games at a convention. If you are running a game at a convention Galileo Games is attending, then you can simply talk to us about what you’re running. If you are running a game at a convention we won’t be attending, then please e-mail info@galileogames.com with a link to or photograph of the convention schedule that shows that they will be hosting a game.

What do I get as a Galileo Gamer?

If you run a Galileo Game at a convention you will be gifted a Swag Bag of Galileo products. This Swag Bag may contain t-shirts, games, exclusive content, or even an electronic PDF bundle. The Swag Bag will change depending on what we have in production and the interests of the Galileo Gamers.

What are the Galileo Games?

Once upon a time, great monsters of grey glass and granite rose up into existence all across the world. They tore and gnawed and gnashed their way through the dirt and bedrock until their roots were buried deep within the earth. They sucked the life from the surrounding land.

As years passed and these horrors grew and grew beyond all reason, pieces of them died and fell away. It was in these dead places that ghosts came to live; in the shadows and tunnels of the urban nightmare. In the Forgotten Places.

Kingdom of Nothing is a game about people who’ve lost everything, and their struggle to crawl their way back. You take the role of a forgotten person. A force called the Nothing has eaten your memories and your deepest fears manifest as twisted monsters that threaten to destroy you.

Your character’s lost backstory is created by the other players at your table. Through the course of the game, you come to grips with the thing that destroyed your life and regain your memories piece by piece. You gradually discover what caused you to get lost in the Nothing.

[Kingdom of Nothing] Galileo Games Is Pleased to Announce

Wednesday, November 10th, 2010

Galileo Games will be publishing a new role-playing game called Kingdom of Nothing by Jeff Himmelman. I am pleased to announce this new title, and I’m really happy to be bringing this great game to print. Kingdom of Nothing will be available for preorder in December.

Here’s what the game is about:

“Once upon a time, great monsters of grey glass and granite rose up into existence all across the world. They tore and gnawed and gnashed their way through the dirt and bedrock until their roots were buried deep within the earth. They sucked the life from the surrounding land.

“Their sinews coursed with cement and rusted metal, their veins pumped sewage. They choked the air when they inhaled into steam-filled lungs; and when they exhaled, only smog and fire escaped. With a thousand limbs they reached up and scraped the sky.

“As years passed and these horrors grew and grew beyond all reason, pieces of them died and fell away. Most of the time, they would cannibalize their dead extremities and grow new ones in their place. Sometimes, though, these places were left to rot.

“It was in these dead places that ghosts came to live; in the shadows and tunnels of the urban nightmare. In the Forgotten Places. These ghosts inhabit a world most have never seen. It exists in disharmony with the reality we’ve come know, at once overlapping and contradicting it. It exists in the shadows and back alleys and tunnels of the urban landscape; in abandoned train stations and condemned buildings. Great rotting palaces lie within these places, vast labyrinths within the tunnels of the city.”

Kingdom of Nothing is a game about people who’ve lost everything, and their struggle to crawl their way back out of the cracks through which they’ve slipped. In it, players take on the role of a forgotten person. Something happened to them that was so horribly traumatic it brought their lives crashing down and forced them onto the street and into homelessness. A mysterious force called the Nothing has eaten their memories and manifested their fears as twisted monsters that threaten to destroy them. Through the course of the game, they come to grips with the thing that destroyed their lives and regain their memories piece by piece. Players at the table collaborate to create your character’s backstory as you collaborate to create theirs. Throughout the course of the game, players discover the intense drama that led their character to get lost in the Nothing.
